Third grade reading is focused mainly on comprehension. The students need to understand what they read and use a text to support their answers to questions. They also need to be familiar with how the text is structured. If you want to know exactly what they will be learning, click below.
The reading program we use is called Wonders. Your student can access it at home by going to their Portal and clicking on the Wonders icon.
Find books that are at your student's level!
When you go to the library or buy your student a book, first search for the title of the book on AR Book Finder. It will tell you if the book is the right reading level for your child! |
The students also use AR Reading. This helps them find library books that are at their level. This is important because they avoid choosing books that are too easy or too hard. Once they choose a book, they must:
1. Read the book three times (unless it's a chapter book) 2. Take a quiz on the book using the AR website below 3. Choose another book and start again! The students earn points as they read. They can spend those points at a the AR store that comes around every quarter. |
