This year in writing, we will be focusing on writing excellent paragraphs. The students will be writing informational, opinion, and narrative paragraphs. If you would like to know exactly what they will be learning, click below and scroll down to the "Writing" section.
What does a third grade paragraph look like?
There are two main things the paragraph has to have. The first is the structure of a paragraph and the second is evidence from the text.
The structure should look like this:
Introduction
Topic Sentence
Main Idea 1
Supporting Detail from Text
Main Idea 2
Supporting Detail from Text
Main Idea 3
Supporting Detail from Text
Conclusion
The students also have to have correct spelling and punctuation. Please make sure your student is working on the spelling words they bring home every week!
Cursive
Third graders learn cursive for the first time. We give a very basic introduction to cursive, but if you would like your child to practice more, there is a great free app called, "Cursive Writing-" that teaches how to form all the cursive letters. Another app called, "Cursive Words," helps kids practice joining the letters into words.
